MÉRIMÉE (Prosper). Letters to M. Panizzi (1850-1870). Published by Louis Fagan of the British Museum Prints and Drawings Department. Paris, Calmann Lévy, 1881. 2 large volumes in-8, brown half-maroquin with corners edged with gilt fillet, ornate spine, gilt head, untrimmed, cover and spine (V. Champs). First edition, with frontispiece of 2 portraits (Mérimée and Panizzi) engraved by A. Leveillé and printed on chine collé. Antonio Panizzi was curator of prints at the British Museum. One of 30 copies on hollande, the only large paper. A well-established copy from the Charles Joly-Bavoillot library, with his bookplate engraved by Giacomelli. Upper head of volume I restored.
