MONTALEMBERT (comte de).
Histoire de sainte Élisabeth de Hongrie, duchesse de Thuringe (1207-1231). Paris, Bailly, Debécourt, 1836. Large in-8, long-grained red morocco, double bold and lean fillet and gilt roulette in frame, gilt crowned numeral in center, ornate smooth spine, blue moire lining and endpapers, gilt edges (Period binding). First edition, with 3 plates engraved by A. Oleszczynski after Muller and Creuzer, including a frontispiece, and a folding table. Copy with the figure of Marie-Louise (1791-1847), Duchess of Parma. The eldest daughter of Francis of Austria and great-niece of the former Queen Marie-Antoinette, Marie-Louise of Austria (1791-1847) married Napoleon Bonaparte in 1810 and was Empress of the French until 1814. Their union produced Napoleon II, known as l'Aiglon, King of Rome and Duke of Reichstadt. After the Hundred Days and the fall of the Emperor, the Congress of Vienna granted her the Duchy of Parma, where she settled permanently in March 1816. Slight brown spots. Small black marks on boards.
