The finest early edition of Voltaire's Romans et contes, illustrated in the first printing with an engraved portrait of Voltaire after Quentin de La Tour, 57 out-of-text figures by Monnet, Marillier and Moreau le jeune, and 13 vignettes by Monnet.
A pleasant copy in contemporary calf.
Small paper defect in the upper margin of a few leaves in Volume I. Two plates inverted between volumes I and II. The table leaves are bound at the end of the volumes rather than following the titles. Hinges rubbed, one headband nicked.
