BARBEY D'AUREVILLY (Jules) - Lot 109
BARBEY D'AUREVILLY (Jules) Omnia. Preface by Joël Dupont. Paris, Bernard Grasset, 2008. In-12, jansenist black morocco, gilt title on spine, gilt fillet inside, purple moire lining and endpapers, gilt head, cover and spine, slipcase (Devauchelle). First edition, published, annotated and prefaced by Joël Dupont. Begun in 1855 in the form of two notebooks, the Omnia collection includes thoughts (philosophical, political, religious), reading notes and quotations from writers, providing an insight into Barbey d'Aurevilly's imagination. The edition is based on an unpublished manuscript acquired in 2004 from the sale of Mme Denise Le Doux's Aurevillian library by the Conseil Général de la Manche for the archives of the département. Copy on ivory laid paper, the only large paper of an announced edition of 30 copies; this one is justified by hand: Exemplaire de Joël Dupont.
