First edition with notes by Samuel Johnson, decorated with a portrait of the author engraved by G. Vertue.
This edition [...] superseded all previous editions and became the standard for future editors and publishers(Jaggard, p. 504; Courtney & Smith, p. 108.)
Browning on endpapers and margins of first and last leaves, due to greasy skin. Some foxing. Rubbing to binding, black spots on first cover of volume IX.
