Founded in 1984 by Patrice Cotensin, the publishing house L'Échoppe created the "Envois" collection the following year, reprinting texts already published in out-of-print specialized magazines, mainly on art history. Most of the paperbacks presented here are on vellum paper (runs of 30 or 50 copies), the only large-format paper before the current run on Bouffant paper, and are sometimes signed by the authors or artists.
