△ Southern Kota reliquary figure, Gabon Wooden core plated with copper and brass H. 40.5 cm Obamba or Ndasa, the realistic style of this work stands out as one of the most moving in Kota statuary. The high forehead, divided into two halves by a vertical copper crest, ends in three rows of wrinkles on a moving, heart-shaped face. An elegant diamond pattern with curved edges, pierced in the center to hold a feather crown, adorns the back, whose erosion bears witness to its great age.
