Portrait of Grand Duke Paul Petrovich of Russia (1754-1801), future Tsar Paul I, wearing the insignia of Knight of Saint Andrew and Saint Alexander Nevsky
Oil on canvas.
Reverse side inscribed "1759 Port...".
The 4-year-old son of Empress Catherine II and Czar Peter III of Russia is depicted half-body, three-quarter left, holding a document in both hands. His brocade jacket is richly embroidered in gold and silver, as is his headdress adorned with diamonds, with a bonnet held by a feathered ribbon.
In a blackened wood frame imitating tortoiseshell.
