Rare set of Ottoman portraits on vellum Polychrome and gold pigments on vellum, in gilded wooden frames German school, 16th century frames: 29 x 23 cm view pages: 14.5 x 10 cm This series of eleven portraits on vellum is taken from a codex depicting various figures from the Ottoman world, all captioned in German gold at the bottom. They represent a ragusian, a pasha, an aga (lord), a Syrian woman, a music-playing slave, a tall Turkish woman, a pilgrim from Mecca, another Turkish woman, a Jewish damsel, a Greek musician and a Turkish noblewoman.
