Set of six Tophane chibouk stoves Glazed earthenware painted with gold and silver Turkey, Istanbul, Tophane, 19th century H. of the largest 8 cm These six well-preserved tobacco-pipe stoves, called chibouk, come in a variety of shapes and feature fine chased, stamped and gilded decoration of gadroons, shells, floral and plant motifs, or beaded friezes. Two also feature silver-painted decoration. They bear various workshop marks. One is marked with a tughra and crescent motifs. A similar pipe bowl is in the Louvre (MAO 946).
