Binding plate in champlevé, cast, engraved, enameled and gil - Lot 13
Binding plate in champlevé, cast, engraved, enameled and gilded copper depicting the Crucifixion, with light blue, dark blue, medium blue, turquoise blue, white, red, yellow and black enamels. The Virgin Mary and St. John, with their long barrels, are placed under the arms of the cross, while two angels appear above, one holding a book; at the foot of the cross, Adam emerges from his tomb; the heads of each figure are in relief, fixed in appliqué; background strewn with rosettes divided by two parallel bands. Inscriptions IHS / XPS on the titulus. Limoges, circa 1215/1230 H. 23.2 cm - L. 11.5 cm On a velvet frame (wear to the gilding, minor deformations, some missing enamel, mainly at the top and bottom edges). The Cleveland Museum of Art holds a very similar plate (inv.1940.471).
