Processional cross in repoussé, engraved and gilded copper w - Lot 48

Processional cross in repoussé, engraved and gilded copper with enameled cabochons and cast appliqué figures. Tubular arms, ball terminations encircled by collars edged with fleur-de-lys, branches punctuated with medallions adorned with bearded head and antique profile; front, Christ surmounted by titulus; reverse, Virgin and Child under canopy; bow decorated with stylized leaves with six painted enamel cabochons decorated with saint heads, one accompanied by the inscription IACOB. Haute-Auvergne, first half of the 16th century H. 69 cm - L. 42 cm Fixing arm (wear to gilding, some missing parts). This cross, typical of Auvergne production, has come down to us with its Virgin complete with her Child, who has generally disappeared.
