Processional cross in repoussé, engraved and gilded copper w - Lot 48
Processional cross in repoussé, engraved and gilded copper with enameled cabochons and cast appliqué figures. Tubular arms, ball terminations encircled by collars edged with fleur-de-lys, branches punctuated with medallions adorned with bearded head and antique profile; front, Christ surmounted by titulus; reverse, Virgin and Child under canopy; bow decorated with stylized leaves with six painted enamel cabochons decorated with saint heads, one accompanied by the inscription IACOB.
Haute-Auvergne, first half of the 16th century

Fixing arm (wear to gilding, some missing parts).
This cross, typical of Auvergne production, has come down to us with its Virgin complete with her Child, who has generally disappeared.
