This is a rare kiss of peace featuring a Lamentation of original composition and rich detail: at the foot of the cross, St. John, the Virgin Mary and Mary Magdalene contemplate, side by side, Christ's recumbent body; in the background, the cross, surmounted by the Moon and the Sun, is surrounded by the Arma Christi (ladder, Longin's spear, seamless tunic, Judas' kiss, nails, washing of the hands, Holy Sponge, St. Peter's cock on the Flagellation column). Few examples are known of this composition, which corresponds to certain plates found inserted in a frame, as in the collections of the Berlin Museum or the Louvre (inv. OA 2543). Here, apart from the handle, the kiss of peace is cast in one piece.
