Bust of a Christ on the Cross, fragment, in carved alabaster - Lot 62
Bust of a Christ on the Cross, fragment, in carved alabaster with slight traces of polychromy on the back of the hair. Head tilted on the right shoulder, encircled by a crown of interlaced thorns, elongated face with frowning eyebrows, half-closed eyes, expiring mouth and short bifid beard, long locks of hair with strong waves, one resting on a shoulder, the other thrown back from the neck, narrow torso with protruding ribcage, sternal lines and epigastric hollow. Beautifully executed. Southern Germany, circa 1600 H. 14 cm - L. 8 cm Red velvet base (visible missing parts and small accidents, notably to the nose).
