French system pinfire pistol. Barrel with thundered sides, then round to the muzzle. Engraved wheel-guide lock, flangeless hammer spring, engraved FP monogram between wheel and hammer foot. Large mechanism spring incorporated into the fruitwood frame. Pear-shaped pommel with brass fillet underlining. France, François Poumerol circa 1620 L. 65.5 cm Cal. 12 mm French Wheellock Pistol. Octagonal barrel near the breech, transitioning to a rounded shape toward the muzzle. Engraved lock plate with a guided mechanism wheel lock, bridgeless hammer spring, engraved FP monogram between wheel and hammer foot. Large mechanism spring incorporated into the fruitwood frame. Pear-shaped pommel with brass fillet underlining. France, François Poumerol circa 1620 L. 25 13/16 in Cal. 15/32 in 351 CH Provenance : - Georges Hoentschel Collection (1855-1915) François Poumerol, one of the finest harquebusiers of his time, was not only Gaston d'Orléans' harquebusier, but also supplier of firearms to Louis XIII's "Cabinet d'Armes". Note that several very similar pistols are held in public collections, in particular in Copenhagen (Rosenborg Castle) and Rome (Odescalchi collection).
