ALMANACH. - État actuel de la Musique du Roi et des Trois Spectacles de Paris. Paris, Vente, 1769. In-12, olive morocco, triple gilt fillet, central coat of arms, ornate spine, red title page, interior roulette, gilt edges (period binding). Interesting almanac published from 1767-1778 (Grand-Carteret, n°396), following the État actuel de la musique de la chambre du Roi (1759-1760). This 1769 volume contains a discourse on the effects of music, and gives details of the Académie de danse, the Académie royale de musique, the Comédie française and the Comédie italienne, with lists of musicians and actors, as well as the repertoire of plays performed. Engraved title by Moreau and 4 attractive intaglio figures by Marillier. A very rare copy bearing the coat of arms of Madame de Sartine. Marie-Anne Hardy du Plessis (1739-1784) married Antoine-Gabriel de Sartine (1729-1801) in 1759, Lieutenant General of the Paris police force under Louis XV, then Minister of the Navy under Louis XVI. She was a bibliophile, but books bound with her coat of arms are rare (cf. Quentin-Bauchart, Les Femmes bibliophile de France, t. II, pp. 456-457, cites only one book from her library).
