BALLARD (Christophe). Nouvelles parodies bachiques, mêlées de vaudevilles ou rondes de table. Paris, [Ballard], 1700-1702. 3 volumes in-12, blond half calf, spines decorated in the grotesque style, green titles and goblets, combed edges (Binding circa 1870). Collection of bachique parodies, most of them set to arias and symphonies from operas by Jean-Baptiste Lully. Among the drinking songs in this collection are: Admirons le jus de la treille, Boire à la capucine, Caressons avec le verre ces bouteilles, Faux ratafia boisson mortelle, etc. This new edition, the first under this title, features 3 copper-engraved frontispieces. (Vicaire, col. 63.) Minor loss at the tail of volumes II and III, otherwise a pleasant copy, spine grotesquely decorated.
