BARCLAY (John). Icon Animorum. London, Norton and John Bill, 1614. In-8, contemporary limp vellum. First edition. Icon Animorum, whose title was translated into French as Tableau des esprits, was a great success in the 17th century. Its author, Jean Barclay, a philosopher and humanist of Scottish origin who was born in Pont-à-Mousson in 1582 and died in Rome in 1621, offers a comparative analysis of the different peoples of Europe. Top edge slightly gnawed.
