BOECKLER (Georg Andreas). - Lot 16
BOECKLER (Georg Andreas).
Nova architectura curiosa. Nuremberg, Rudolph Johann Helmer, Christian Sigmund Froberg, 1704. 4 parts in one in-folio volume, stiff vellum, title in ink on spine, blue edges (Binding of the period).
Beautiful book on hydraulic architecture by Georg Andreas Boeckler (1644-1698), chief architect of the city of Nuremberg.
Superb engraved intaglio illustrations, including a frontispiece and 199 plates offering 230 representations of machines, fountains and water jets of all kinds, many of them set in gardens and water towers, according to the author's imagination, which is often very fanciful.
Handwritten contemporary bookplate at the bottom of the first page: Ex-libris Carol Wilhel. Ebreri abetim Eschenbach.
Paper a little foxed, small wetness affecting the margins of a few plates. Trace of vertical fold on title and following leaf.
