CURIOSA.
La Belle sans chemise. London [Paris], s.n., 1797. In-18, red morocco, triple gilt fillet, ornate smooth spine, title page, interior roulette, gilt edges (period binding).
First edition under this title, with a frontispiece engraved by Bovinet after Chaillou.
The work first appeared in 1683 under the title Éve ressuscitée ou la Belle sans chemise, avantures plaisantes. This collection of highly indecent anecdotes was prosecuted under the Restoration, but there is no judicial decision on the subject in the Moniteur (Gay-Lemonnyer, II, col. 197; Drujon, Catalogue des ouvrages... poursuivis, supprimés ou condamnés de 1814 à 1877, p. 156).
