CELEBRATIONS. - VAN WICQUEFORT (Abraham)]. Relation en forme de journal, du voyage et séjour, que le Sérénissime et Très-Puissant Prince Charles II Roy de la Grand Bretagne, &c. a fait en Hollande, depuis le 25 May jusques au 2 Juin 1660. The Hague, Adrian Vlacq, 1660. In-folio, havana half calf, ornate spine, black headpieces, red edges (mid-19th century binding). First edition in French of this book of festivities celebrating King Charles II's (1630-1685) stay in the Netherlands and his visits to Breda, Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Delft and The Hague (Ruggieri, no. 1090; Vinet, no. 747). - Watanabe, Festivals & Ceremonies, no. 2666). Very fine copper-engraved illustration, including a superb portrait of Charles II by Cornelis Van Dalen and 6 folding plates engraved by Pierre Philippe and Theodor Matham after Adriaen Van de Venne and Jacob Toorenvliet. The title finial bears the sovereign's coat of arms. One plate missing (5 of 6). Restored tear to 2 plates and to the bottom of leaf X1, small restoration to the inner margin of the first two text leaves and angular paper loss to two others. Binding heavily rubbed, hinges fragile, lower part of spine detached (but preserved).
