HÉRÉ (Emmanuel). Recueil des plans, élévations et coupes tant géométrales qu'en perspective des châteaux, jardins, et dépendances que le Roy de Pologne occupe en Lorraine... Se vend à Paris chez François, s.d. [1752]. Large folio, fawn half-calf, spine decorated (Modern binding in the 18th century taste). First edition. A beautiful architectural book entirely engraved on copper, comprising a title, a dedication leaf, a superb allegorical frontispiece designed by Girardet (bust portrait of Stanislas Leszczynski crowned by Minerva in the presence of Painting, Architecture and Sculpture, with destructive Time lying on the ground), 33 plates (single, folding or double-page), and a descriptive text leaf (Description du rocher...). This is the first of three volumes making up the Recueil de Héré (1752-1753), written by Emmanuel Héré (1705-1763), a pupil of Germain Boffrand and the first architect to King Stanislas of Poland in exile in Nancy. It includes plans and views of the monarch's major projects for the development and decoration of the châteaux and gardens of Lunéville, Chanteheux and La Malgrange, the church of Bonsecours, etc. Minor wetness at foot of frontispiece. The plan of the château de Chanteheux is trimmed short at the foot, but not missing.
