INCUNABLE. - GERSON (Jean).
De pollutione nocturna. S.l.n.d. [Cologne, Johann Guldenschaff, circa 1481]. - De cognitione castitatis et pollutonibus diurnis. S.l.n.d. [Cologne, Johann Guldenschaff, c. 1480]. 2 works in a gothic in-4 volume, half marbled basane with small corners, ornate spine, red edges (18th century binding).
Collection of 2 extremely rare incunabula, treatises by Gerson on "nocturnal and diurnal pollutions", in other words, solitary sexual pleasures.
Written in the early 15th century by Jean Charlier de Gerson (1363-1429), a French philosopher and theologian who was, among other things, chancellor of the University of Paris, these texts went through some fifteen editions between 1466 and 1500, all printed anonymously.
The GW online catalog lists no copies in French institutions for De pollutione nocturna (GW 10816; Goff G 260), compared with one for De cognitione castitatis... (GW 10732; Goff G198), located in Langres.
Some early annotations in ink, handwritten notes on upper flyleaf.
Rubbing to binding, top cover missing.
