A work by Juste Lipse on the military system of the Romans, in which the author discusses the raising of troops, the organization of the army, the division of soldiers, the functions of officers, armament, orders of battle, ensigns, signals, etc. (Colson, pp. 52-55.) Copper-engraved illustration including a double-page plate and numerous figures in the text. Old handwritten bookplate on title. Some old annotations in the margins. Some foxing, title page of first part faded. Volume partly detached and detached from spine, small crack on one hinge.
