Manuscript in-12 (143 x 95 mm), one title leaf and 193 pages, black morocco, triple gilt fillet, central coat of arms, ornate smooth spine, interior roulette, yellow moire lining and endpapers, gilt edges (Period binding).
Meticulously written manuscript, with a title page adorned with an attractive hand-drawn and hand-colored frame, featuring military attributes and coats of arms. Text framed by a black double fillet.
Etat des troupes de l'armée en 1738, estimated at just over140,000 men: infantry, cavalry, dragoons, gendarmes, light horses, musketeers, etc., with details on pay, invalids, as well as pensions from the military order of Saint-Louis.
Manuscript copied and bound for Duke Charles Fouquet de Belle-Isle (1684-1761), grandson of Louis XIV's famous superintendent, appointed Marshal of France in 1740. The small coat of arms painted in the title frame is his.
