MANUSCRIT. - March 1743. Catalog of new books. S.l. [18th ce - Lot 92
MANUSCRIT. - March 1743. Catalog of new books. S.l. [18th century]. Manuscript in-4, two parts of 4 and 6 pages, modern boards. Curious catalog of imaginary books denouncing the debauched morals of priests, lawyers and society women. The first page is beautifully decorated with a foliage frame, hand-drawn and hand-colored at the time. The second part is devoted to women, whom the author takes pleasure in sarcastically attacking; each work is accompanied by a crisp commentary on its content. Take, for example, the book entitled Un peu de tout c'est ma devise, comédie proverbe by Mme Jonquès du château commun, rue des allures, in which the author tells us that Voluptuous to excess, insensitive to any affair other than that of love, this woman has seen it all, experienced it all, abbé, page, soldier, jurisconsult, officer, everything has passed through her hands... Smudging on the edges of a few leaves.
