MATTEI (Loreto).
Il Salmista toscano, parafrasi lirica sopra il Salterio. Macerata & Parma, Galeazzo Rosati 1678. In-4, limp vellum, triple fillet and fleurons in the corners, large coat-of-arms in the center, ornate smooth spine, title page, spotted edges (contemporary binding).
Second edition of this paraphrase of the Psalms of David, which earned its author, the poet Loreto Mattei (1622-1705), a member of the Académie des Arcades, a literary quarrel with the poet Domenico Bartoli.
Gilt vellum copy with the large coat of arms of the House of Farnese.
The title bears the handwritten inscription Ex dono Maria Magdelena Farnese: born in 1638 and died in 1693, this princess was the daughter of Edward I Farnese and Marguerite de Médicis.
Cut-out (filled in) of a stamp or bookplate on the title. Minor damage to title-piece and edge of first board.
