PUTEO (Paris de). De sindicatu, libri duo. S.l.n.d. [at colophon]: Lyon, Jean Flajollet, 1539-1540. 3 parts in one in-8 volume, brown morocco, double framed with cold filets, gilt fleuron at corners, ornate spine, interior lace, gilt edges (Hardy). Very rare Lyon Gothic edition of the Tractatus de syndicatu de Paris by Puteo (or del Pozzo), an Italian jurisconsult born around 1413 and died in 1493, who held a chair of law in Naples and was responsible for the education of the Duke of Calabria, the future King of Naples Ferdinand I. (Baudrier, t. VI, pp. 189-190, and t. XII, pp. 434.) It was printed by Jean Flajollet (Flaioletus in Latin) for Jacques Giunta, a member of the great Italian dynasty of the same name and established in Lyon as a bookseller in the first half of the 16th century. Printed in long-line Gothic script; titles set in an engraved frame, the first two adorned with a typographical mark listed by Silvestre no. 448 as that of Giunta. Only one copy of this edition is listed in the CCFr (Lyon). Inscription in pen on the general title: C. Colmar s. u. d. (?). The third part is poorly bound before the second. Leaf CLXVIII (x8), blank, has not been preserved. Small brown wetness at the head of the last quires of the volume. Scuffing to binding.
