Very rare, large-scale engraving of the family tree of arts and sciences on which the Encyclopédie's intellectual project was based. A fervent admirer of this undertaking, Chrétien Fréderic Roth had wanted to condense in this spectacular visual form all the knowledge articulated in Diderot and D'Alembert's work. Three years later, he published in Weimar, with Hoffmann, a small 32-page volume printed in a limited number of copies, reproducing part of the preliminary discourse of the Encyclopédie, for use with the Encyclopedic Tree.
