GUINOT (Eugène). Summer in Baden. Paris, Furne et Cie, Bourdin, [1847]. Large in-8, cherry calf, boards entirely covered with gilt plate with green highlights, different oval composition on each board, smooth spine similarly decorated, gilt edges, cover (Publisher's binding). First edition. Portrait of Leopold, Grand Duke of Baden, 12 steel-engraved figures, 6 colored costume plates and a map, for a total of 20 out-of-text engravings. Numerous woodcut vignettes in the text by Johannot, Lami, Français, etc. Sumptuous publisher's binding with a large plate covering the boards and spine. This plate is reproduced by Paul Culot in Relieurs et reliures décorées en France à l'époque romantique, under no. 200. The same plate, without the central medallion compositions, was used by the publisher Delloye to decorate copies of Les Femmes de la Bible by Georges Darboy (1846) (see reproduction pl. 38 in Sophie Malavieille, Reliures et cartonnages d'éditeur en France au XIXe siècle).
