The author's most important work, written in the context of the roman noir movement, published in 1829. Copy on china paper, bearing an autograph letter from Janin to his friend Raphaël Bischoffsheim, followed by this note in the author's handwriting: Exemplaire unique sur papier de Chine. Raphaël Bischoffsheim (1823-1906), a wealthy banker and Boulevard regular, was a close friend of Jules Janin and lover of the tragedienne Rachel. Some spotting, slight halos on the first cover of volume I.
