SAINT-PIERRE (Bernardin de). Paul et Virginie, followed by La Chaumière indienne, Le Café de Surate, Le Voyage en Silésie, l'Éloge de mon ami and Le Vieux paysan polonais. Paris, Mequignon-Marvis, 1823. Large in-8, long-grained violet morocco, gilt fillet and cold-rolled border, gilt scroll plate with oval medallion in reserve, spine decorated lengthwise with repeating decoration, inner scroll, moiré white paper endpapers, gilt edges, modern slipcase (Thouvenin). First edition. Engraved title with vignette, 4 out-of-text figures after Desenne and a folding map. Copy on large vellum paper, with the figures before the letter, in a delightful binding by Thouvenin. From the Descamps-Scrive (II, 1925, no. 1925) and Henri Beraldi (not catalogued) libraries. Light foxing on first and last leaves. Small restoration on upper hinge.
