Jacques CANIVET (1714-1773), maker of mathematical and drawing instruments in Paris Gilded and engraved brass pinnacle graphometer, the round compass under glass with eight-direction compass rose, north indicated by an engraved fleur-de-lis, the mobile alidade with two pinnules and limbs engraved with Arabic numerals and vegetal interlacing, mounted on a fixed plate and a ball-and-socket joint foot allowing it to be tilted vertically, resting on a turned blackened wood base.
