Statuette of the god Apis Egypt Late Period, circa 663-332 B.C. Bronze L. 8 cm - H. 7.5 cm (without tenon) A small bronze amulet of the same god (W. 3.5 cm x H. 3.8 cm) is included. Votive statuette depicting the Apis bull walking on a base. He is wearing the solar disk with the uraeus. Apis, always represented as a bull, is a Memphite deity whose cult is attested as early as the 1st Dynasty. He is a fertility god, associated with Ptah. Provenance: - Former private collection Paris, France, acquired in Egypt in the early 20th century by the current owner's grandfather. Literature : - G.
