Suruku mask - Lot 3
Suruku mask Bamana, Mali Wood, black patina H. 43 cm Provenance: Galerie Vérité, 1950-1960s Sukuru hyena mask from the Korè initiation society, corresponding to the first of the three classes of initiates (hyena - lion - monkey). The face is ovoid and concave. The mask is flanked by two ears that rise vertically above the head. At the top of the skull, a small cylinder resembles a hyena's powder puff.
