*Statuette Owo Nigeria Ivory and metal H. 22 cm Provenance: Former - Former Pierre and Claude Vérité collection - Rive-Gauche sale, Paris, June 17, 2006, lot 172 From the 2006 Vérité catalog: "It depicts a richly adorned standing figure, holding a sword of justice in his right hand, his neck encircled by a collar bristling with panther claws. The head wears a mortar toque with squared edges and a browband inlaid with copper nails, ornaments found on the garment composed of a chain mail rib and feathers on the breastplate. The circular base is engraved with cowries. A fine antique object belonging to a notable's treasure, the facial features are characteristic of the Yoruba style in the Benin tradition."
