No'onga Headquarters Rurutu Island, Austral Islands Archipelago, French Polynesia Wood H. 44.5 cm Provenance: Former - Former Pierre Langlois collection - Collection of Monsieur B., Paris Beautiful Rurutu prestige seat. Carved from a single block of wood. With its refined design, this seat was associated with political and spiritual power. This type of object was reserved for chiefs or high-ranking individuals, and was used to assert their status at ritual gatherings. Rurutu stools are rare. Comparable examples are few and far between, but the one in the Musée du Quai Branly- Jacques Chirac and the one in the Bishop Museum in Honolulu are noteworthy.
