Alafolo club Malaita Island, Solomon Islands Wood with dark patina Circa 19th - 20th century H. 129 cm A highly stylized face emanates from the top of the long, straight handle. The long vertical rib is a nose, while the thin carved band represents the eyes. Geometric motifs delicately punctuate the overall effect. The lower part of the spear is elegantly modeled. Beautiful dark patina. Widely used in the Solomon Islands, and more specifically on the island of Malaita, this object is an eloquent testimony to the culture of this Pacific region.
