SLEIDAN (Johannes). De l'Estat de la religion et république chrétienne. Strasbourg, 1564. 3 parts in a large volume in-8, tortoiseshell calf, triple fillet, spine decorated in the grotesque style, green parts, red speckled edges (18th century binding). This important work contains a history of the religious troubles that took place between 1517 and 1556. The author represented Strasbourg and the Swabian towns at the Council of Trent. A precious copy, once owned by the poet Jacques Poille sieur de Saint Gratien (1559-1623), whose signature and motto can be found on the title. From the Gustave Mouravit library, with a note on the flyleaf and his ex-libris stamp on the titles of the three parts. One spine rubbed, one headband defect.
