In-8, brown jansenist morocco, large modeled and tinted leather inset in the first cover, set of seven inner fillets bordered by two wide fillets, blue brocaded silk lining and endpapers with iridescent highlights, gilt edges on witnesses, cover, slipcase (E. Carayon). First edition, illustrated with life sketches drawn and engraved on wood and copper by Auguste Lepère. Edition of 140 copies on Arches vellum, this one enriched with 2 suites of engravings and 9 original pencil drawings on laid paper, including 6 large ones, by Auguste Lepère, all signed. Attractive binding by Emile Carayon, decorated with modeled and dyed leather depicting a village, with branches of apple trees bearing fruit in the foreground.
