First edition, illustrated with 34 etchings by Pierre-Yves Trémois. Edition of 250 copies, this one enriched with an original ink drawing accompanied by an autograph letter from the artist on a double page, dated XV.XII.1980. Autograph signed letter from Montherlant to Pierre Benoit on the false title page: A Monsieur Pierre Benoist ce ne livre où rien n'est, même le tout, où tout est, même le rien. This drama, too, not only between several beings, but within one and the same being, this exposure at last of a being's blindness to itself and to others. Montherlant May 23, 1960.
