Rare offprint of a scholarly study for the Description de l'Égypte (Gay, n°3353; Meulenaere, pp. 25 and 67.) Samuel Bernard (1773-1853) had taken part in the Egyptian expedition; appointed director of the Mint in Cairo, then member of the Egyptian Institute, he ended his career as head of the Paris Mint.
