London, Roger Daniel, Jean Martin & Jacques Allestrye, 1653. 2 parts in a large volume in-4, grainy calf, spine ornate, speckled edges (Binding of the period). First English edition of the Old Testament in the Greek translation known as the Septuagint. Printed on two columns in Greek, it was established by John Biddle (1615-1662), founder of English Unitarianism. Copy with the bell mark on the title page (cf. Bowes, Catalogue of Cambridge books, no. 265-266). Large paper copy, reprinted in in-4 format. Printed bookplate Maurice Vernerey, de Luhier; crossed-out old manuscript bookplate on title, and another dated 1749 from a Jesuit college. Binding restored (spines, corners, headbands).
