KORAN. Kazan, Gimnaziye-Aziatsko, 1816. In-12, half-brown calf, smooth spine decorated (Period binding). Very rare edition printed in Arabic. Collection of suras from the Koran, printed in Kazan at the Asian Gymnasium printing house. It was in Kazan, capital of Tatarstan (modern-day Russia), in 1803, that the Koran was first printed by Muslims. A complete version of the Koran had appeared in St. Petersburg in 1787, printed for the Mohammedans of Russia. Printed on bluish laid paper. Covers and hinges restored.
