COUTEL (Antoine). - Lot 39
COUTEL (Antoine).
Promenades by Messire Antoine Coutel, Chevalier Seigneur de Monteaux, des Ruez, Fouynais, etc. Blois, Alexis Moette, s.d. In-12, pebbled calf, smooth spine decorated in the grotesque style, red edges (18th century binding).
A collection of verse plays and literary games by a forgotten poet from Auvergne.
Among the pieces it contains are Les Forces de l'amour, a Latin epigram on Montaigne's Essais, and a piece very identical to Madame Deshoulières' Idylle des moutons, which gave rise to a debate on the supposed plagiarism of one or the other.
A copy with a few corrections in pen, which a handwritten note on a flyleaf attributes to the author.
From the library of Prosper Blanchemain (1816-1879) (bookplate), member of the Société des bibliophiles françois and great collector of Ronsard.
Lacks a headpiece, upper hinge partly cracked.
