English chess set from the late 19th century. Wooden box (23.5 x 14.5 x 6 cm) folds out into two parts to form a board measuring approx. 23 x 29 cm, 32 bone pieces stained white and red; Jaques & Son Patentees London / In Statu quo Chess Board on board edges. A system locks the pieces when the box is closed. Preserved in its dark green leather case with flaps and lock (without key) (case very rubbed).
