BRETON André. FLAGRANT DÉLIT. Paris, Thésée, 1949. In-4, pap - Lot 30
BRETON André. FLAGRANT DÉLIT. Paris, Thésée, 1949. In-4, paperback. First edition relating to the Chasse spirituelle falsely attributed to Arthur Rimbaud. One of the first 100 numbered copies on Hollande laid paper signed by André Breton. Also included: BRETON André. AUTOGRAPH LETTER SIGNED to Jean BRETON. Paris, June 4, 1950. 1 page in-4 in green ink. Retained envelope. André Breton replies to a letter of reproach from Jean Breton, writer, poet, journalist and publisher, founder of the magazines Les Hommes sans épaules (1953), Poésie 1 (1967) and Les Éditions Saint-Germain-des-Prés (1966), among others. He was later literary director of Le Cherche Midi. I reply, since you accuse me of never doing it, and it's almost true... where the difficulties begin is when I try to guess what you expect of me, you, Jean Breton like others before you whom you reproach me for having disappointed... what should I do in your opinion that I don't do? I note in your letter the word "solitaire": so? You know very well that as soon as there are a few too many of us around a table, we can't get along. As for the generation ladder, I can assure you that it's not that easy (in my experience) to remove one or two rungs - I've tried it a few times, not without a fall...
