First edition of one of the best books devoted to Chagall. Original full-page ink drawing dedicated to Hélène Hersent (sic), dated Paris 1949, signed by Marc Chagall, depicting a woman holding a bouquet of flowers. The letter is addressed to Hélène Anavi - Hersaint, (the paper bears the Hélène Anavi Paulhiac postage stamp), who married the banker and collector Claude Hersaint and was a close friend of many artists, including Chagall.
