The aso is commonly described as a hybrid being half-dog half-dragon. Considered a powerful protective figure, its representation is omnipresent in the Dayak universe and establishes a lineage's membership of nobility and power.
The dynamism of this sculpture is admirable, showing a proud, roaring aso, victorious in combat, his rival's head resting between the powerful claws of his forelegs.
