Dead Christ in chiseled bronze with a natural patina. Head t - Lot 68
Dead Christ in chiseled bronze with a natural patina. Head tilted toward the right shoulder, eyes closed and mouth open, arms spread in a V-shape, short perizonium tied at the right hip with a side drape, legs parallel and slightly bent, and feet superimposed with an inward rotation; back with perizonium revealing the lower buttocks. Beautiful patina and chiseling. Florence, after a model by Jean de Bologne with the assistance of Antonio Susini, circa 1600 H. 31.5 cm (minor casting defect on the back of the right thigh) A fine example identical in size and model to the Christ in the collections of the Musée de la Chartreuse in Douai. Donated to the museum in 1877 by Amédée Foucques de Magnonville, this Christ was reputed to have been previously acquired from the Florentine family of Bernardo Vecchietti, the very first patron and friend of Jean de Bologne.
